Oman: The Omani seaports have increased their capabilities to enhance the economic movement in the Sultanate of Oman. Efforts made over the past years have led to an increase in the ports’ capabilities in import and export, at a time when the Port of Duqm is preparing for a new phase during which automated cranes are operated and operations are fully automated instead of the current cranes.
Statistical data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information indicated that the volume of goods imported through Omani seaports rose in the first five months of this year to 15.7 million tons, compared to 12.2 million tons in the same period last year, registering an increase of 28.4 percent.

The goods imported through sea ports constitute 86.1 percent of the total merchandise imports received by all customs ports during the first five months of this year, amounting to about 18.3 million tons.
The Sultanate of Oman is distinguished by the presence of an integrated network of ports spread along the Omani coasts. The main commercial port network includes: Sohar Port, Salalah Port and Duqm Port. There are also smaller ports in the wilayats of Suwaiq, Shinas and Khasab. Sultan Qaboos Port has been allocated in the Muscat Governorate to serve the tourism sector.
The value of merchandise imports through sea customs ports in the first five months of this year amounted to 4.1 billion Omani riyals, an increase of 37.4 percent over its level in the same period last year, accounting for 67.6 percent of the total value of registered merchandise imports.
The first five months of this year witnessed an increase of 21.7 percent in the value of recorded merchandise imports, which rose from 5 billion Omani riyals to about 6.1 billion Omani riyals, while the quantity of imports recorded a growth of 17.7 percent, from 15.5 million tons to about 18.3 million tons.
